UPI reported the Cash-Landrum lawsuit and the government's response in 1985

The contemporary wire report records the witnesses' radiation and helicopter claims, the damages sought and the government's argument that control of the object could not be shown.

UPI reported on 3 September 1985 that Betty Cash, Vickie Landrum and Colby Landrum attributed illnesses to their 29 December 1980 encounter and were pursuing a federal claim.

It preserves a dated account of the legal dispute and clearly separates the witnesses' allegations from the government's position.

The report documents claims and litigation; it does not independently verify radiation exposure, military helicopters or government ownership of the object.
