In late 2024, reports of drones and unusual lights across New Jersey and the northeastern United States prompted federal investigations, flight restrictions, and public concern. Authorities said many reports matched lawful drones, aircraft, stars, or planets, while confirmed drone activity near sensitive sites remained a real airspace-security issue. This dossier separates verified events from viral claims.

From 20 November 2024, U.S. military authorities reported small unmanned aircraft near or over RAF Lakenheath, RAF Mildenhall, RAF Feltwell and RAF Fairford. The number, size and configuration varied, and British authorities opened a criminal investigation and deployed counter-drone support. The public record confirms a real installation-security incident, not merely online rumor. It does not identify an operator, foreign sponsor or extraordinary aircraft, and it contains no released raw sensor data that would allow independent reconstruction. Later flight restrictions and an official Ministry of Defence report show that the response continued beyond the first sightings. The most careful classification is therefore a confirmed drone-incursion case with unresolved attribution, not evidence of non-human technology.

On 26 January 2023, a U.S. military pilot near Eglin Air Force Base detected four radar targets between about 16,000 and 18,000 feet, then visually observed only one and captured one electro-optical and one infrared still image. The video recorder was already inoperable, so no event video exists. AARO concluded with moderate confidence that the imaged object was very likely a lighter-than-air craft, based on its reported behavior, viewing geometry, wind and sun conditions, and comparison testing with a commercial lighting balloon. The other three radar targets lacked imagery and could not be analyzed. A radar circuit-breaker trip during the approach had occurred repeatedly on the same aircraft before the event, so the public record does not support attributing that fault to the object.

From 10 to 12 February 2023, U.S. fighters shot down three small objects over Alaska, Yukon and Lake Huron after heightened radar scrutiny following the separate Chinese surveillance balloon. The first two were reported near 40,000 feet and the third near 20,000 feet. Officials cited aviation hazards and unresolved surveillance concerns. Initial searches ended without attributable debris. Canadian March emails later described shore material and a weather-equipment module, but expressly left the link to the Lake Huron target uncertain. A Yukon image became public in 2024 and official Lake Huron infrared footage in May 2026. These disclosures expand the evidence without confirming every model or owner. Biden’s February 2023 assessment favored private, recreational or research balloons rather than a link to China’s surveillance program. The archive retains its conventional explanation while distinguishing verified military operations from incomplete individual identification.

The Los Angeles ‘jetpack man’ case is a series of distinct aviation reports, not a tracked continuous object. On 30 August 2020, crews on approach reported a person-like object near the Runway 25R final at about 3,000 feet. On 14 October, a China Airlines crew briefly saw a shiny object near Culver City at roughly 6,000–6,500 feet. On 28 July 2021, one Kalitta Air captain reported a reddish, person-sized object about 15 miles east of LAX at 5,000 feet. FAA radar reviews did not produce a discernible track, and released FBI files do not identify an operator or device. An LAPD helicopter separately filmed a Jack Skellington-shaped balloon north of Century City; that makes balloons plausible, but location and date differences prevent it from solving every report.

UAP is a neutral official label for observations or detections that available data cannot yet identify; it does not mean alien spacecraft.

UFO means unidentified flying object. UAP now means unidentified anomalous phenomena in U.S. official usage. Neither label establishes an object's origin.

Most reports begin with honest uncertainty. Time, direction, motion, weather, flight paths, satellite passes and original files are the strongest first checks.

Record time, location, direction, duration, weather, witnesses and original files, then check aircraft, satellites, planets, balloons and drones before reporting.

Read a government assessment by separating its reporting window, case status and evidentiary limits. The 2024 annual report is a worked example, not a live total.

The October 23 release adds an AARO witness memorandum and historical files to the official archive. The department says further releases are being prepared; unresolved reports are not confirmed extraordinary craft.

BRIN says an orbital track supports a Zhuque-2E origin for debris found near Sampit after an October 18 aerial disturbance, while physical checks remain important for component identification.

An October 23 witness submission preserves a 91.77-second recording of a changing white shape. The reporter suggested a weather balloon or fabric; the footage does not demonstrate extraordinary motion.

An October 21 Reddit post shows three bright lights above a roadside scene in Virginia. Aircraft and illumination flares were proposed in the discussion; neither size nor object identity is established by the short clip.

A video published October 19 shows a small irregular object against a pale sky. The witness places the observation in Jinzhou on October 16; drifting plastic or a balloon remains plausible.

A witness reported a slow light over Szczecin on October 14. The complete Reddit clip is preserved with its Starlink context and optical limitations, without treating an oval blur as a resolved craft.
