A research briefing published September 1 drew attention to the Department of the Air Force entry now visible in the U.S. National Archives index for Record Group 615, the Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena Records Collection. The official page links the entry to National Archives Identifier 656595571.
Congress created the collection through the 2024 National Defense Authorization Act. NARA says federal agencies must transfer digital copies of publicly releasable UAP records and that material is being added on a rolling basis as agencies prepare and deliver it.
The same public index also lists series from the Federal Aviation Administration, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Office of the Director of National Intelligence, Office of the Secretary of Defense, National Security Agency, Department of State and Federal Bureau of Investigation. The Air Force listing therefore expands the visible institutional coverage of the statutory collection.
Placement in RG 615 establishes archival custody and public discoverability; it does not certify that every report is unexplained or supports an extraordinary origin. Researchers still need to inspect individual records, their provenance, redactions and any accompanying analysis before drawing conclusions about a reported event.
