Authorities in west-central Minnesota are investigating a large metal object discovered in a Scott Township cornfield on October 14. MPR News reported the next day that the Stevens County Sheriff's Office described it as about 11 feet across and said it posed no danger to the public. Its identity and ownership had not been established in that report.
Deputies went to the field after a call at about 3:30 p.m., according to the sheriff's account carried by MPR. The Minnesota Duty Officer was notified and federal agencies attended the site. County officials said they were coordinating with state and federal counterparts to identify the object, contact its owner and arrange removal. A photograph released by the sheriff shows the metal structure among cut corn stalks.
FOX 13's October 16 follow-up also attributed the possible space-object description to the sheriff's office. Neither report identified a particular rocket, satellite or operator. The public evidence therefore supports a debris-identification investigation, not a finding of extraterrestrial material. The photograph documents what was recovered on the ground; it does not establish an airborne trajectory or where the object originated.
