Cardiff sky-light video points to a ground laser projection

A 104-second phone video records brief bluish zigzag lines repeating against low cloud; their fixed convergence and visibility only on cloud support a ground-light explanation.

What the video shows

The complete 104-second portrait recording shows low broken cloud above rooftops. Short blue-white zigzag or straight segments appear for fractions of a second in recurring positions, with occasional small points elsewhere in the frame. The patterns illuminate cloud rather than tracing a continuous free-flying object, and no solid body is resolved.

Witness description

The poster said the display was recorded in Cardiff at 12:44 a.m. on July 19. They first considered strobes but could not identify a nearby event or source, and also noted a fast point near the upper-right area around 21 seconds. After commenters proposed ground lasers or spotlights and referenced local projection work, the poster said the explanation made sense.

Source and provenance

The original r/UFOs post 1v0da8r identifies u/Gee447, Cardiff, the stated time and Reddit media ID y1bwsluca3eh1. The full HLS source was remuxed without trimming to a local 720-by-1280 H.264/AAC MP4; the thumbnail is a source-video frame. Reddit labels the post Likely Identified.

Evidence notes

A first-person post, exact stated time, live discussion and complete source video provide a clear chain of custody. Repetition in fixed sky areas, illumination limited to clouds and apparent convergence toward the ground strongly favor projected light. The suggested operator is not independently confirmed, so the specific source remains unverified even though the mechanism is well supported.

Possible explanations

Ground-based laser projectors or high-powered spotlights sweeping patterned beams across low cloud are the leading explanation. A meteor, aircraft or self-luminous aerial object would not normally repeat the same angular traces only where cloud is present. The separate fast point may be an aircraft, insect or another light artifact and cannot be resolved.

Verification notes

The post, author, claimed time and city, media ID, full local video and thumbnail are documented. The visible pattern is real in the recording and is likely explained by ground projection; credibility is rated B for a well-sourced, probably identified sighting.
