What the video shows
Several pale circular patches sweep rapidly across a cloud deck, repeatedly curving and crossing. Their edges are diffuse and conform to the illuminated clouds. The camera also records distant lightning, but no solid object, beam source or independent trajectory is resolved.
Witness description
The submitter said the lights moved unpredictably and then in circles during cloudy weather with thunderstorms in the distance. The witness considered spotlights but reported no visible beam and said the display lasted about ten minutes.
Source and provenance
The archive preserves an original-device iPhone 16 MOV and links the Reddit submission. The report form dates the observation to the night of August 8-9, but device metadata records August 25 at 22:15 UTC, about August 26 at 00:15 local time. The public record cannot reconcile that date conflict, so this entry uses the file timestamp while disclosing the form claim.
Evidence notes
The original-device file supports media provenance, but it does not identify the light source. Diffuse patches on clouds are optical projections rather than resolved airborne bodies. No second viewpoint, event schedule, compass bearing or ground survey is available.
Possible explanations
Moving-head searchlights from a club, festival, stadium or promotional event can produce circular pools on low cloud without a clearly visible beam, especially in humid air. This explanation fits the repeated synchronized arcs better than independent airborne objects; lightning does not account for the sustained circles.
