An r/UFOs moderator announced ufosighting.report on July 17 as a searchable community archive for sighting posts. The launch statement said the service began with more than 8,000 reports dating to early 2024 and would automatically preserve new posts carrying the subreddit's sighting label. The live site listed 8,408 archived entries by July 19.

The project addresses a practical loss of evidence: authors delete posts and accounts, while older hosted media can become unavailable. Archived entries retain the report text, photographs or video, location and time when those details exist. It is a community record, not a government or scientific-institution database, and that distinction remains important.

Users can browse a gallery, search by terms and filter a map by date, shape, country and media type. For reports with adequate time and location data, the site offers checks for International Space Station and Starlink passes, nearby rocket launches, historical aircraft traffic and a sky chart. A per-capita map option attempts to separate reporting volume from population density.

A structured reporting form asks witnesses to describe why a common object does not fit and can retain an original file rather than Reddit's recompressed copy. The announcement says uploaders can choose whether device, time and location metadata are public, and that withheld GPS data are removed from the published file. Reddit account verification is used to connect a submission to an identifiable platform account.

The archive may make comparison and preservation easier, but it does not turn a report into verified evidence. Automated parsing can misread dates or locations, witness descriptions remain untested, and orbital or flight checks depend on available data. Its strongest role is as an index that preserves provenance and encourages better reporting; each case still requires independent analysis.
